凡軍好高而惡下, 貴陽而賤陰, 養生而處實, 軍無百疾, 是謂必勝, 丘陵堤防, 必處其陽, 而右背之.

Armies prefer high ground to low, favor sunlight over shade, nurture life and occupy solid positions. An army free from a hundred diseases is called certain to win. On hills and embankments, occupy sunny positions with the right and rear against high ground.
